2989194 - Error when connecting to SuccessFactors using Power BI

Symptom

Through Power BI, when connecting to the SuccessFactors API the Power BI is returning the following error:

"UnexpectedXmlAttribute: The attribute 'CollectionKind' was not exepected in the given context(1, 1481)"

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors HXM Suite

Cause

This is caused by using the incorrect metadata URL to connect to SuccessFactors on Power BI.

Resolution

IMPORTANT NOTE: This error is not being returned by SuccessFactors, so in case you are facing these or more issues or this does not resolve your problem, it should be investigated directly by the Power BI team since the Power BI application is not owned by SAP.

Now, the resolution for this error in specific is that you would have the metadata being provided to the Power BI, so it knows what SuccessFactors is able to provide. To correct this error, do the following:

  1. On Power BI click in "Get data";
  2. Select the option "OData feed";
  3. On the window, select "Basic" and on the URL paste the URL according to your DC with the suffix: /odata/v2/$metadata

The full URL should look like: "https://your_DC.successfactorsURL.com/odata/v2/$metadata"

In case further instructions or additional errors must be investigated in the Power BI connection, please reach out directly to the Power BI team, as SAP does not support Power BI integrations. Now, in case the error is coming from, or caused by SuccessFactors, please reach out to the SAP Support team and we will investigate further.
