2998602 - Warning Message "Document 123 of type XXX is still open in a previous period" in VAT Return Run

Following a VAT Return Run, the application log shows a warning message: Document 123 of type XXX is still open in a previous period.

Note:

123 refers to the Document Type ID

XXX refers to the Document Type

SAP Business ByDesign

1. Go to the Tax Management Workcenter.
2. Select VAT Return Runs view.
3. Search for the relevant ID.
4. Open the corresponding Application log.
5. Navigate to the Result Tab.

Result: A warning message appears: There is 1 open item between YYY and ZZZ (YYY and ZZZ represents the dates).

Document 123 of type XXX is still open in a previous period.

As indicated in the warning message, the mentioned document has not been reported and is still open in a previous period. This can be verified by using the report Open VAT / Sales Tax Items.

When there are documents open in a previous period, then the option is that you can create a new VAT Correction Return to ensure that all the VAT relevant documents are reported.

The other option would be cancelling the return corresponding to that period and then running the VAT Return Run once again so that a new return is created.
