3001441 - hanging ASE spids, parallel processes cannot be killed - SAP ASE

Symptom

On SAP ASE systems with ASE parallelism configured:

  • tempdb database runs out of log space (Error 1105) during ASE parallel query execution
  • The parallel queries involve Hash Join operations
  • These spids hang and cannot be terminated via ASE KILL command in isql.
  • The stacktrace for these spids references the following functions:

        uwpredisconnect
        err_disconnect_allchildren
        err_pll_primary_processing

On systems running SAP BW applications and SAP Solution Manager systems:

  • the report SAP_BWTOOLPGM_SYB (executed via t-code SE38) shows several Infocubes with more than 1000 partitions
  • Multiple occurrences of Error 540 are seen in the ASE errorlog (see SAP KBA  2833526)
  • stacktraces are reported in the ASE errorlog referencing LeHash functions (see SAP KBA 3126590)
  • serveral ASE processes (spids) are hung and cannot be terminated via ASE KILL command in isql.
  • The stacktrace for these spids references the following functions:

    uwpredisconnect
    err_disconnect_allchildren
    err_pll_primary_processing
