3006499 - Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\SAP\SAP GUI\tmp\.sapaox'

Symptom

When opening Analysis Office from a Portal, BI Platform or the transaction RAAOE an error is raised by Excel.

Microsoft Excel cannot access the file 'C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\SAP\SAP GUI\tmp\.sapaox'. There are several possible reasons:

  • The file name or path does not exist.
  • The file is being used by another program
  • The workbook you are trying to save has the same name as a currently open workbook.

Another common message is: "file format and extension of x.sapaox don't match".
