3006690 - Unable to export to MS Words (.docx) format, from Crystal Reports

Symptom

  • When exporting to Word, it create an RTF document.
  • When exporting to MS Word formats from Crystal Reports, it generate an RTF document, instead of a MS Word (.docx) document.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In Crystal Reports, open a report.
  2. Export the report to one of the following MS Words format:
    • Microsoft Word (97-2003)
    • Microsoft Word (97-2003) - Editable
  3. Crystal Reports generates an RTF document, instead of a MS Words (.docx) document. 

Cause

  • By design, the Microsoft Word exporting formats, generates an RTF document.
  • There is no exporting format in Crystal Reports, that generates a MS Word (.docx) document.

Resolution

  • Since there is no exporting format in Crystal Reports to generate a MS Word (.docx) document, a suggestion will be to export the report to Microsoft Word, then open the document in MS Word, and save it to MS Word (.docx) format.
       
    1. In Crystal Reports, open the report.
       
    2. Export the report to one of the following MS Word format:
      • Microsoft Word (97-2003)
      • Microsoft Word (97-2003) - Editable
          
    3. In MS Word, open the generated RTF document, and save it in the MS Word (.docx) format.
