3010154 - ASE raises error 1157 when exp_row_size changes on a table with existing data - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • ASE raises error 1157 after change the table exp_row_size on update or insert. For example:

    Insert free space value -11315 in page header of DOL datapage 1355 belonging to object id 592002109 in database 'repro' is incorrect. It has been recomputed and is now -11315.
  • This can lead to Replication Server DSI connection being shutdown with the following message:

    THREAD FATAL ERROR #5049 DSI EXEC(125(1) <server name>.<database name>) - neric/dsi/dsiqmint.c(5108)
    The DSI thread for database '<server name>.<database name>' is being shutdown. DSI received data server error #1157 which is mapped to STOP_REPLICATION. See logged data server errors for more information. The data server error was caused by output command #1 mapped from input command #5 of the failed transaction.

  • This issue will also be reported by dbcc checktable:

    Msg 9990, Level 16, State 1:
    Server 'ase16', Line 1:
    The insert free space value (-11894) in the page header of DOL datapage 425809,
    partition ID 12524047 is greater than the sum of cfs and ncfs (143) in the
    page.
    Insert free space' value in the page header of DOL datapage 425809, partition ID
    12524047, has been corrected to -11894.
