3010654 - BP role is not extended with DEBMAS/CREMAS IDoc - SAP S/4HANA

Symptom

A BP with customer/vendor role has been created. Now it's necessary to extend the BP to vendor/customer role using CREMAS/DEBMAS IDoc. However, the CREMAS/DEBMAS IDoc is failing with number range error, or a new BP is created instead of extending the existing BP.
