3010938 - Unicode char display as '?' with ct/li - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • ASE is configured for default character set utf8 / Unicode 
  • Client is isql executed from windows command prompt
  • The following SQL query returns '?' for some characters whereas with other java clients return the correct character

    isql -Usa -Pxxx -Sxx -Jutf8 -- Windows client

    select 'a' + ' 中文 ' + ' ß ' + ' 㮾 ' + ' b'
    go

    -----------------
    a ??  ß   ?  b
