3011451 - Limit Data in Reports

Symptom

You would like to know how the Limit Data feature in reports works.

Environment

SAP Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open your report either from the Business Analytics or the Analysis work center.
  2. Execute the report.
  3. Go to Table Settings.

Here you find the option Limit Data and you would like further information on what the effect of this setting is.

Resolution

When a report retrieves and computes a large amount of data, the report session aborts in case the session memory exceeds the prescribed limits. In such cases, the Limit Data feature can be used, which will display the specified number of records on the screen and avoid the dump.

When the report is executed, there is an algorithm that calculates the amount of memory that will be consumed.

If the memory to be consumed is less than the session memory, then all the records are displayed, irrespective of the Limit Data option in the Table Settings. In case the memory to be consumed is more than the session memory, then the setting in Table Setting -> Limit data is considered and the records are limited, to avoid the memory dump.
