Symptom
- A large amount of data has been imported into the model
- Is there any way to modify the data without losing data in the model
Environment
- SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise)
Cause
The feature doesnot supported in current product. Changes to a model can require rebuilding the model from the original query that defined it, but not always. Here is the reason:
- if the change corresponds to the addition of a dimension or a measure in a model, that can be done with no loss of data. The process to follow is the following then:
- Open the model in the modeler and add the desired dimension and/measure
- Save the model
- Create the new import job that would push data into the new definition of the model, and map the source to the model definition. Data is then added to the model
- if there are deletion or modifications of the structure from the original query, like changing a dimension to a measure, then it will directly affect how data is stored and it is needed to go through a rebuilding exercise, starting from the original wrangling session of the first query. The model is stored behind the scene as a star-schema, meaning that changing a dimension into a measure forces a structural change of how data is stored since a dimension table to be deleted, and the fact table will add a new column corresponding to the measure.
Resolution
Workaround:
- Datasets will allow changes to the model definition at any point in time with no data loss as the way of storing data is optimized for agility.
- There is a "deduplication()" transformation as part of wrangling that will remove any duplicate rows that may have in the data.
To request a new feature or product enhancements, SAP has defined a new process and tool called Influence and Adopt. Influence and Adopt, allows customers to log Enhancement Requests themselves and have the ability to work more directly with our technology and development group.
