Symptom
You created a Production Order based on a Master Data with a Supply Task, and multiple Make Tasks. When you release the Production Order, and the Tasks are generated, you notice that the Production Task IDs are not in sequence. For example, the Supply Task which is the first Task has the ID: B and the second Task which is the first Make Task the ID: C, while the third Task which is the second Make Task has the ID: A. However, you expect the Supply Task to be A. The first make Task to be B. And the third Task which is the second Make Task to be C.
A, B, and C represents the Task IDs.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to Production Control workcenter.
- Go to the Production Order view.
- Find and select the relevant Production Order.
- Click the Edit button.
- Go to the Order Structure tab.
- You can see that the Supply Task ID and Make Task ID are not in sequence.
Cause
For the relevant Production Order, you have maintained the Operation in the third Task as a Setup Activity. When the system creates the Tasks, it assigns the first available Task Number to the Operation having a Setup Activity, because it is not dependent on any other Operation (SUPPLY_001).
Resolution
This is an expected behavior. If your issue is related to sequencing and you want the Tasks in sequence as in the Bill of Operation (BOO), then you should change the Activity Type to ‘Produce’ instead of ‘Setup’, and the system would generate the Tasks in order.
