Symptom

  • ASE Startup fails with Error: 840 and Error: 3404

    00:0002:00000:00002:2021/01/16 15:45:17.73 server  Device 'sysprocsdev' (with physical name '$SYBASE/data01/sybprocs.dat', and virtual device number 1) has not been correctly activated at startup time.  Please contact a user with System Administrator (SA) role.
    00:0002:00000:00002:2021/01/16 15:45:17.74 server  Error: 3404, Severity: 21, State: 1
    00:0002:00000:00002:2021/01/16 15:45:17.74 server  Rec_complete: Could not open controlling database (id 31514) of controlling database in multi-db transaction.

  • Device exists and has full permissions to SYBAS

  • Master in multi-db transaction
  • Master cannot be recovered
