3023321 - Why default function area YB99 is used in posting - SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

The functional area YB99 is always generated in postings even the functional area is not maintained.

In Cloud the substitution is not available as SSCUI.

But behind the scenes in fact there is a substitution active in Cloud: If no functional area was derived from the CO object and also not from the G/L account master data, then this substitution fills the default value YB99 into the functional area field of the journal entry line item.

It is standard behavior that YB99 is updated in the journal entry if no functional area is maintained in the master data. YB99 is the default ("fallback" or "catch-all") derivation for functional area in public cloud ensured by substitution rule /0SAP/DEFAULT_FUNCTIONAL_AREA. It acts as a system-generated placeholder to ensure all postings have a functional area assigned, supporting cost of sales accounting requirements.

As a workaround it is possible to substitute the functional area using app Manage Substitution and Validation Rules.
