Symptom

Upon editing and activating a substitution/validation rule in the 'Manage Substitution/Validation Rules' app (ID F4406), you encounter the error message 'Syntax error: Unexpected character "~".'

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Cause

This error may be caused by a precondition/target field being taken from an outdated datasource

Resolution

Given this instance is caused by an outdated datasource, refresh the datasource by removing and re-selecting each precondition/target field from the list of available fields
