3026603 - Backup & Restoration for SAP Analytics Cloud

Symptom

  • How often does SAP take data backups of SAP Analytics Cloud customer systems?
  • Can customers request on-demand restores? If yes, what would be the scope, system level or content specific?

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise)

Resolution

How often does SAP take data backups of SAP Analytics Cloud customer systems?

  • The primary purpose of a data backup is for disaster recovery purposes, i.e. An SAP declared disaster.
  • A full data backup is done once a day and, in addition, log backups are automatically taken every 15 minutes.
  • Backups are replicated in additional availability zones in the same region.
  • Backups are retained for 14 days.
  • Backups are deleted afterwards.

Can customers request on-demand restoration of a system or content specific (i.e. Individual objects such as stories, models, applications, version data, etc.)?

  • The primary purpose of a data backup is for disaster recovery purposes, i.e. An SAP declared disaster.
  • A restoration of a backup due to a non-SAP declared disaster, for example, user deletion of data, over-writing of data, is done in only exceptional circumstances.
  • A restoration of a backup due to a non-SAP declared disaster can only be completed using the daily full data backup.
  • SAC System Owner can request restoration of a data backup by Reporting a case through the SAP for Me, however, there is no guarantee that the request will be approved as it is done in only exceptional circumstances.
=> Since content backup should be managed via Content Administration by customer and that a system restore cannot be guaranteed, system restore cases are NOT considered Very High priority.
  • If approved, details of restoration will be confirmed in writing via the Support Case with the SAC system owner prior to restoration.
    • Due to the complexity of restoring a system, there is no time commitment on when or how long it will take, and that all data can be recovered.
    • Restoration is of the complete system to a point in time per above and not individual content.
    • Restoration will cause downtime for the customer system.
    • Restoration will cause data loss between time of back-up and time of restoration
