Symptom
- On SAP ASE 16.0 SP04, a database dump hangs as a result of a timeslice or Error 3019.
- Concurrent dump database or dump transaction jobs hang.
- Other process(es) can be blocked.
- On systems running SAP applications, ST22 short dumps occur with Error SQL30102 - several SAP work processes terminate.
- ASE server needs to be restarted in order to clear the problem.
- There are two main sequences in the ASE log for this issue
- Slight variations on these have been observed
- Below most typical elements of each
- A dbcc stacktrace on the hanging spid shows similar stack functions as detailed below
1. Timeslice in the module pausenonatomic with a stack containing functions like des__errhdl, des_checkpoint and/or des__install.
timeslice -1001, current process infected at 0x20757ef (pausenonatomic+0x9)
followed by stack traces which include functions like:
kitermproc
des__errhdl
des_checkpoint
checkpoint
ckpt_process_dbs
ckptproc
syb_polite_shutdown
syb_shutdown
des__install
des__fill_common.isra.1
des__fill.isra.2
des_do_get
open_user_table
2. Errors 3602 & 3019 with a stack trace that contains functions des__errhdl and des_checkpoint.
