3030787 - Changing a depreciation terms eg depreciation key changes depreciation in unintended periods

Symptom

Changing a depreciation terms (eg depreciaion key, useful life) results in unintended changes in periods that you don't want.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Enter Manage Fixed Assets app.
  2. In the asset you change the depreciation key.
  3. You see the planned depreciation changes with new entries in already posted periods.

Cause

You have changed the key that was used when the depreciation was posted. The system will consider all open fiscal years want to be changed when a depreciation key is changed.

Resolution

Use a new time interval to enter the date you want the new depreciation key to be considered. And ensure that prior fiscal years are closed as possible to ensure that no unintended changes are made.

NB There is no guarantee that all planned values will be removed, and as such it maybe required to posted via a depreciation run any planned values remaining.
