3032750 - Journal entry can be created even if the assigned WBS element has not been released yet.

Symptom

Sales billing document can be posted to generate journal entry even if the status of the assigned WBS element is on Created.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Project Control app to create a project and WBS element.
  2. Go to Create Sales Orders app to create a sales order and assign the WBS element in "Profit. Segment" under tab Account Assignment
  3. Create Billing document against the sales order.
  4. Post the Billing document to generate journal entry and the journal entry can be created successfully.

Cause

When the WBS element is assigned in "Profit. Segment" rather than the field "WBS Element" under tab Account Assignment in sales order, the WBS element will be considered as one of the characteristic in profitability segment and not as an account assignment object in sales order. The profitability segment would act as an account assignment object in this case. Thus, the status of WBS element has no effect on the posting of journal entry.

Resolution

This is standard behavior.
