Output product ABC in BoM variant causes recursion.

ABC represents the output product entered and is a dummy value mentioned for the purpose of this document.

Business ByDesign

1. Go to Planning and Production Master Data work center. 
2. Navigate to the Common Tasks view and choose the option New Production Bill of Material.
3. Enter the relevant information and try to save the BoM. 
4. The system displays the error: Output product ABC in BoM variant causes recursion.

You get the above reported error message.

• There is already a bill of material in the system where the Output product ABC is used as the Input product to create an Input product which is used in the new BoM which you are trying to save.
• This error is also triggered if you include the Output product ABC as an Input Product of the Production BoM you are trying to create.
• The reported error will be displayed even if the already existing BoM is in Obsolete Status or if you have deleted the Input Product from the existing BoM.
• The system consideres this because there are always options for the business user to Undo Obsolete the BoM or add the same Input Product later. 

This recursive scenario is not supported in ByDesign.
