3033830 - Invalid column length errors with stack traces- SAP ASE 16.0

Symptom

  • The following error with a stack trace occurs on SAP ASE 16.0 SP03 PL07 and SP03 PL08 HF1:

Invalid column length: 157. Value must be between 0 and 12 at offset -111 for 'data-only' row with minimum row length of 40.

  • Stack trace includes functions:

collocate
LeCompressSubst
getnext
LeScanOp::_LeOpNext(ExeCtxt&)
LeTopOp::_LeOpNext(ExeCtxt&)
LeEmitSndOp::_LeOpNext(ExeCtxt&)
LePlanNext

  • The error is followed by the message:

Open SDESes at the time of the error:
SDES 0x2b8501ed8: DBID 4, object 642163098, index 2, SCUR (53301256, 37)

  • REORG REBUID hits Error 515 after "Invalid column length" is reported:

Msg 515 Level 16 State 3:
Attempt to insert NULL value into column 'mycol', table 'SRV.SAPSR3.TBL'. Column does not allow NULLs. Update fails. Command aborted.

  • "dbcc checktable" on the affected objid reports no issues.
