Symptom
- Software Update Manager fails in phase MAIN_SHDIMP/SUBMOD_SHD2_RUN/START_SHDI_SHD2 with below error in SAPupConsole.log:
Severe error(s) occurred in phase MAIN_SHDIMP/SUBMOD_SHD2_RUN/START_SHDI_SHD2!
Last error code set:Shadow instancecouldn't be started, check 'START_SHDI_SHD2.LOG' and 'DEVTRACE.LOG': Action START failed for SAPN<sid>/<nr> ('Errorin call_upg_is_shadow_system.').
To analyze errors during the start of the shadow instance, check the'START_SHDI_SHD2.LOG' and 'DEVTRACE.LOG' files in directory'D:\usr\sap\SUM\abap\log'.
Repeat the phase until the shadow instance is started and you can log on toinstance number <nr>.
- In START_SHDI_SHD2.SAV log, below error can be found:
2EETQ360 RFC of "UPG_IS_SHADOW_SYSTEM" failed:
2EETQ361 code/exception : 3
2EETQ362 key : DBSQL_UNKNOWN_CONNECTION
2EETQ399 Database connection is unknown.
1 ETQ399 Action START failed for SAPN<sid>/<nr>('Error in call_upg_is_shadow_system.').
- In DEVTRACE.LOG below error can be found juxtaposing above error:
