After SAP Note 2980785 is available in the code, the message GK 835 "Document no. &1 already exists in number range &2, dimension &3, year &4" is raised and no runtime error occurs.

Another symptom may be - on release S/4HANA 2021 - that runtime error DBSQL_DUPLICATE_KEY_ERROR with exception CX_SY_OPEN_SQL_DB occurs in function fincs_document_refresh_update. In t-code ST22, in the runtime error's details, exception contains the following text: "A data record is to be inserted even though a data record with the same primary key or same unique secondary key exists."
