3047751 - Formula in cell is not working correctly in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) when NULL value is exist

Symptom

Formula in cell is not working correctly in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC) when NULL value exists.

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise)

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create a new story on sample model.
  2. Insert a table and confirm there is NULL value in the cell.
    For example: A1 = 10, 7
    A2 = NULL, 4
  3. Insert a new row, make formula equals to "A1 + A2"
  4. Result is showing NULL, 11

10 + NULL = NULL should not be considered as a correct result.

Cause

  • The behavior is by design.
  • NULL is not equal to "0", hence it is allowed for the user to determine how the "NULL" should be considered.

Resolution

There is a function called IsNull() which can be used for formulas where you can determine how the "NULL" value should be used.
