3048061 - Error Message Upon Posting Manual Acquisition After Fixed Asset Migration: 'Posting date <year end date> must be in fiscal year <next year> for fixed asset <ID>'

Symptom

You are trying to post a manual Acquisition at year end to a migrated asset, that has also been migrated at year end, however an error message is being raised.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Fixed Assets work center.
  2. Go to Fixed Assets view.
  3. Select the migrated asset and click Manual Postings -> Acquisition.
  4. Fill in the required parameters and give posting date at year end (E.g. 31.12.2020). Note that this asset has also been migrated at year end (e.g. 31.12.2020).
  5. Click Simulate.

Given the above dates as example, the error message is raised as follows: 'Posting date 31.12.2020 must be in fiscal year 2021 for fixed asset <ID>'

Cause

The asset to which you are trying to post an acquisition is a legacy asset. Meaning it has either been migrated via Migration tool or via Fixed Asset -> New -> Legacy Asset. Since the asset has been migrated with posting date as 31.12.2020, this is considered a year-end migration (meaning a migration after closing financial statements), hence no further manual postings can take place in 2020.

Resolution

Either use the Migration tab within the asset to make postings via migration in 31.12.2020 (if no postings already occurred) or a new asset would need to be created with a migration date not as 31.12.2020, so that it's not categorized as year end migration. Then you would be able to post in 2020.

Apart from that, any manual posting can only happen as of 2021, given the current example.

You can check/change the migration posting date via General Ledger -> Companies  and change it via Action -> Set Posting Date for Migration.

Obs: only new assets are affected by the change.
