Symptom

  • What logic or order is used to update the formal name?
  • Sometimes updates are based on the name format code, while other times they're updated according to the name format configured under the legal entity.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central

  • Formal name

Resolution

  1. If you manually update the value of the formal name, it will override all the configured name formats.
  2. If the formal name hasn't been manually updated, changing the value of the name format code will automatically update the formal name accordingly.
  3. If neither a manual update nor a change to the name format code has been made, the formal name will change according to the name format configured under the legal entity.
  4. If none of the three conditions—manual update, name format code change, or legal entity configuration—are met, the formal name will default to a "first name last name" format after saving the personal information.
