Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Reporting
  2. Create a new Table report and ensure that Comments field from Application (or similar field from other tables) are selected
  3. Select Enable Distinct option under columns
  4. Preview the report
    Result: Error
  5. If trying to generate the report, the csv file does not have any data

Cause

The data type of the column is not supported when combined with Enable Distinct. You will see the following error in the backend:

Error encountered in getting the data.com.successfactors.analytics.queryengine.exceptions.QueryEngineException: Error encountered in executing the query. SAP DBTech JDBC: [264]: invalid datatype: LOB type in distinct select clause...

Resolution

We suggest removing the Comments field (e.g. Reference Comments or anything similar) from the report since this field contains a long string or perhaps paragraphs and cannot be processed for distinct checking.  Also, if this field contains more than 4000 characters for comments, then it will hit a database limitation for reporting.

After removing the field that is causing data type and enable distinct issues, the report will start working again - Preview and Run will display data.

Another alternative is to disable "Enable Distinct" selection under columns. It does not work well with fields of this type.
