3063522 - Custom Fonts are not shown in the Preview - Browser Limitation

Symptom

You want to use customer specific fonts in a form template but the fonts are not shown in the preview.

Environment

SAP Business by Design

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Navigate to the work center Customer Invoice, for example.
  2. View Invoice documents and search for any invoice and hit the preview button.
  3. Here you cannot see your custom fonts.

Cause

The preview  function is not using the embedded fonts. If you save the preview and you open the PDF with an Acrobat reader you will see the Fonts are part of the PDF. Also, printing via the Acrobat Reader and the Cloud Print Manager will consider your Fonts. This is a browser limitation and not related to all fonts depending on the browser you are using.

Resolution

If you print those documents, they will use the fonts as expected. Save to file would have the fonts in the PDF too. In case the output channel is e-mail, it might be an issue if the setup (Microsoft) will not automatically open the attachment in the Acrobat Reader and instead using a browser.

The recommendation here is to change the Microsoft Logic so that PDFs are always opened with the Acrobat Reader. For assistance to do so please contact your Local IT or IR representative.
