3065630 - How to Troubleshoot Task Engine Issues on Commerce Cloud Using Dynatrace

Symptom

Issues with the task engine can be observed in the form of business processes not being executed. In the Backoffice you will find that the business processes continue being created and take the RUNNING state, but none of their sub tasks are initiated. This leaves essential processes in a hanging state and can lead to a negative user experience.

One common reason for such situations is the exhaustion of the task worker pool. This is configured with the task.workers.max property in Commerce Cloud and is set to 10 by default. If the workers are executing time consuming tasks, they can monopolize the pool and leave any new tasks waiting for their turn.

Dynatrace offers a way to identify this particular problem and determine the reason for the long-running task execution.
