3069024 - Frequent 644 and 12314 errors on tables with many insert/deletes - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • On heavily updated tables you receive 644 and 12314 errors:

Error: 644, Severity: 21, State: 5
Index row entry for data row id (11713470, 0) is missing from index page 360272 of index id 2 of table '<table>' in database '<database>'. Xactid is (20204946,16). Drop and re-create the index.
Error: 12314, Severity: 21, State: 1
Bad child page pointer found on page 360279 of index with id 2 of table '<table>' in database '<database>'. Expected child page pointer to be 360304 but found 360409. Check if the index is consistent using DBCC.

  • Dropping and re-creating the index fixes the problem.
    • However, it re-appears soon after on a different page.
    • If the page numbers are always the same after re-creating the index then this could be due to a hardware issue.
    • Check your operating system logs.
