3069528 - The depreciation start date of an asset cannot be modified to the closed year

Symptom

When you try to change the depreciation start date of asset to last closed fiscal year, the system raised the error said that you can not change the depreciation start date to closed fiscal year.

Environment

SAP S/4Hana Cloud 2105 and above

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Enter APP "Manage fixed assets"
  2. Choose the asset you want to change
  3. Change the depreciation start date to closed fiscal year

Cause

The reason why we do this change in CE2105 is that we found if you change depreciation start date to the date in close fiscal year, that will lead to useless data (expired useful life) in the system. The definition of expired useful life is the time that the asset exists in closed fiscal year. For example, you try transfer the asset to company code B on 2021/06/01. The asset first has value on 2020/06/01 in company code A. Then you transferred the asset from A to B. If you change depreciate start date to 2020/06/01, the expired useful life will be 0 years 7 periods. This is not correct, there is no expired useful life for the asset in company code B. For company code B, it is a new asset. Therefore, change that will lead to useless data.

Resolution

It is correct system behavior, you cannot change the depreciate start date to closed fiscal year.
