3069879 - Error Message "Invalid data due to gaps or overlapping employment periods" Displayed After Replication

After replicating basic master data for a workforce from external HR systems to SAP S/4HANA Cloud, the following error message appears in the API response or in the Message Monitoring Overview app:

"Invalid data due to gaps or overlapping employment periods".

The workforce person is moving from an 'Inactive' employment status back to an 'Active' employment status. Examples for such scenarios are 'rehiring' and 'withdrawn from termination'. The planned working time information was not delimited when the workforce individual was set to 'Inactive'. This now creates an inconsistency because the working hours can never be '0' for an 'Active' employment status.
