3073571 - Tables have zero suppression enabled by default in SAP Analytics Cloud for Planning (SAC)

Symptom

After the 2021 QRC3 update (Version 2021.14) tables have zero suppression enabled by default (if and only if booked mode is activated).

This can cause the following symptoms to occur:

  1. Certain rows might disappear. Check the following example. Before the update the row/account ‘Sample Measure’ was visible. With zero suppression activated this row might disappear.

    Before zero suppression is activated:

    After zero suppression is activated:

  2. Account hierarchy nodes with drill level 1 and aggregation type ‘label’ might disappear.

  3. certain columns in tables with deprecated forecast layout using cross calculations disappear

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud (Enterprise) 2021.14

Cause

In SAC QRC3 (Version 2021.14), SAC provides a new feature: Zero suppression for tables. By default, null suppression and booked mode will be activated in tables. That has the following changes in behavior:

  1. Accounts (and/or calculated accounts, cross calculations) that are null or zero appeared in booked mode before the release. After the release, null suppression is enabled by default and this causes certain rows to be not visible anymore.
  2. In case an account member uses ‘Label’ as an aggregation type (in combination with a table with booked mode and zero suppression enabled), the account will disappear by default. Note, this might only appear for tables with selected drill Level 1 (which is a default setting)
  3. In case tables use the deprecated forecast layout using cross calculations certain columns disappear. This is also due to zero suppression (which is enabled by default).

Resolution

1. In cases where the original behaviour of showing the suppressed zero rows is required, there are two options:

a. Disable zero suppression for the particular axis (in this example: rows)

or

b. Use unbooked mode instead of booked mode (in this example: account dimension)

2. In case one needs to make the label account visible again there are two options:

a. Model the aggregation type to ‘None’ instead of ‘Label’

or

b. Use unbooked mode instead of booked mode (for the account dimension)

3. In order to make the suppressed column appear again, turn on unbooked mode for the cross-calculation dimension.
