3073816 - How to install DBClient 16 SP04 - jconn42.jar - SAP ASE for Business Suite

Symptom

When running a SUM upgrade on SAP NW 7.5 systems where ASE has been previously upgraded to ASE 160 SP04, SUM has a step "DETERMINE-NEW-JDBC-DRIVER-LOCATION_01.0.LOG " where SUM is checking if there is a new jconn42, if it finds it, it will change the setting to use it.

If you only change the "j2ee/dbdriver" parameter in the SAP instance profile, J2EE won‘t start any more. See errors below. You have to adjust "config.properties“ and "secure store class name“ as well.

- ERROR => Node 'bootstrap' failed with exit code 558
- com.sap.sql.log.OpenSQLException: Could not load class com.sybase.jdbc4.jdbc.SybDriver with class loader com.sap.engine.offline.FileClassLoader

For Bus. Suite we deliver and support …

ASE SP03:

  • jconn3.jar (70x)
  • jconn4.jar (73x - jvm6 / 74x - jvm6 / 75x - jvm8+ )

ASE SP04:

  • jconn3.jar (70x - jvm4)
  • jconn4.jar (73x - jvm6 / 74x - jvm6 / 75x - jvm8+ )
  • jconn42.jar (75x – jvm8+)

So when upgrading ASE to SP04 there is no need to switch the jdbc driver. It will still work and include fixes with the existing jconn4 file.

The switch to jconn42.jar currently happens via SL Tools starting with Toolset SP 30+ via following tools ..

  • SWPM  (any scenario based on ASE SP04 and NW AS Java 75X)
  • SUM  (any scenario with target NW75X and already existing jconn42.jar in global jdbc dir)

This note describes how to manually install the DBClient 16 SP04 - jconn42.jar for use with SAP Netweaver 7.5 applications, IN CASE IT IS NEEDED UNDER SUPERVISION OF PRODUCT SUPPORT
This is specific to systems using sapjvm8+.
The system of course might stop working in case a customer starts doing such changes manually.
