3076767 - Performance Issues, Locks and Time Out During Material/Service Valuation Migration

Symptom

You are migrating a large volume of Material or Service Valuation Data records using the Migration Tool.

The process is time-consuming. Especially during the Import Simulation step, latencies and even time-outs can be observed (message "Data Import in Progress").

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Business Configuration work center.
  2. Access the Overview work center view.
  3. Locate and open the relevant fine-tuning activity, either Migration of Material Valuation Data or Migration of Service Valuation Data.
  4. In the next screen, click the link Migrate material valuation data using the migration tool (or Migrate service valuation data using the migration tool).
  5. Execute the migration.

Cause

The volume of data that can be reasonably processed during the migration process is limited as to migration sessions run in parallel and record volume in each file.

This can be exacerbated by combinations of Materials/Services and Business Residence in involved migration files.

Resolution

The following recommendations should be followed to mitigate experienced problems.

Materials/Services and Business Residence:

Materials/services related to several Business Residences should be contained in 1 file and should be sorted accordingly in continuous order.

For example:

2 Materials/Services ABC, DEF (ABC, DEF represent two Material or Service IDs)
5 Business Residences A1, B1, ... , E1 (A1, B1, E1 represent different Business Residence IDs)

The Financial Data - General and Financial Data - Details data entry tabs should hence be structured as:

ABC A1
ABC B1
ABC C1
ABC D1
ABC E1
DEF A1
DEF B1
DEF C1
DEF D1
DEF E1

The number of entries in the Financial Data - General tab should not exceed 20,000 records.

Volume and Parallel Sessions:

In case larger date volumes are to be migrated, it has to be observed that only a maximum of 3 sessions running in parallel is technically supported.
Included migration files should not exceed more than 20,000 records under tab General (see above).
Having more concurrent migration sessions can result in process- and/or user locks.
The same material should not be maintained in parallel processed files, as this leads to contractions as to the execution status of concerned files.
