3076895 - Value not Valid for Variable Error in Report Value Help for Text Fields

Symptom

You are using a variable on a report field such as Question Description or Answer Description. However when you run the report you face the following error:

Value ABC not valid for variable DEF (ABC stands for the selected value and DEF stands for the variable name)

Environment

SAP Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the work center Business Analytics.
  2. Choose the view Design Reports.
  3. Open the report.
  4. In the selection area, open the value help for your respective field, such as Question Description or Answer Description.
  5. Choose a value and click OK.

When you run the report, you face the mentioned error.

Cause

Variables on free text fields do not support certain special characters like question marks.

Resolution

Generally, we do not recommend setting variables on free text fields. However if this is required, please note that special characters like question marks cannot be used in variables.
