3081506 - SET Group and Global Hierarchy

Symptom

  1. It's not clear what's the relationship between SET Group/Financial Statement Version and Global Hierarchy.
  2. Although cost center groups are created with App Manage Cost Center Groups, they are not shown in CDS view I_COSTCENTERHIERARCHY.
  3. It's not clear the relationship between standard hierarchy (which is requested during cost center creation) and the normal hierarchies.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Resolution

  1. SET Groups and Global Hierarchies are two different tools used for maintaining hierarchies. The classic tool, for example app Manage Cost Center Groups, allows users to maintain cost center groups using SET technology. On the other hand, the new tool, Manage Global Hierarchies, replaces the classic tool and offers the option to maintain various types of hierarchies such as cost center hierarchy and activity type hierarchy. The replication process is integrated and occurs automatically when the hierarchy is saved and activated, eliminating the need for manual replication. However, if automatic replication is required, the option like "Use in Compatible Cost Center Group" must be selected when creating a global hierarchy.

Both SET Groups and Global Hierarchies can be used for configuration and reporting purposes. SET Groups can be replicated into Runtime Hierarchies using the Fiori App: Replicate Runtime Hierarchies. Additionally, the Financial Statement Version (FSV) can be activated into Runtime Hierarchies when the hierarchy is saved.

According to the roadmap of SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, SET Groups will eventually be replaced by Global Hierarchy.

  2. To ensure that the created cost center groups can be used, users need to manually replicate the group using the App 'Replicate Runtime Hierarchy'. The attached document provides instructions on how to replicate the cost center groups. After replication, the cost center group can be found in the CDS view I_COSTCENTERHIERARCHY. To display the values, a custom CDS view based on this CDS view needs to be created.

There are two options to display cost center groups in the relevant CDS view:
Option 1: Continue using the classic tool for maintenance and follow the attached document to manually replicate the Cost Center Group.
Option 2: Migrate the Cost Center Group data from the classic tool to Manage Global Hierarchies and use the Manage Global Hierarchy tool for future hierarchy maintenance. In the Manage Global Hierarchy tool, there is a button called 'Import Hierarchy' that allows users to migrate the Cost Center Group as a Cost Center Hierarchy.

  3. The standard hierarchy is a setting in the controlling area. In SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition, the system only has cost center standard hierarchy 0001 for controlling area A000. Customers can modify 0001 and create nodes under it, which can also be selected as the standard hierarchy.
