3090296 - Start Time and End Time fields of EmployeeTime & EmployeeTimeSheet Report showing Time Stamp 1/1/1970

Symptom

Time related fields from EmployeeTime and EmployeeTimeSheet objects in Advanced Reporting and Report Story are showing Time Stamp 1/1/1970.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Run any Report Canvas or Report Story that includes the Employee Time table in its query.
  2. Observe that the Start Time and End Time columns display an added date of “1/1/1970”.

Scenario for Story Report


Cause

Employee Time objects were migrated from MDF Legacy to MDF BE as part of the 2021 release. During this migration, a "dummy" date was introduced alongside the time value.

Resolution

For Story reports, this behavior is expected, as the system stores time fields as DateTime values. When no actual date is provided, the system defaults to 01/01/1970 along with the time. This is a known limitation and is planned for consideration in a future release.
  • Additionally, this KBA 3403703 confirms that time-only reporting is not supported in Story Reports, as the available functions require String input and cannot extract only the time portion.

As per Canvas reports, our team is currently investigating this issue; however, there is no estimated fix date at the moment.
Please note that the timestamp displayed in the fields remain accurate, and the added date “1/1/1970” can safely be disregarded. To remove this value in a Canvas report, proceed with the steps described below. The date “1/1/1970” will be removed; however, the time will be displayed in 24‑hour format.

Workaround for Report Canvas - Advanced Reporting

  1. Edit the Advanced Reporting query.
  2. Create a calculated column.
  3. Select the field StartTime or EndTime.
  4. In the formula, click on the selected field.
  5. Add a Function and Edit it
  6. Use the Right function and set 8 characters.
