3097005 - "unknown error occurred during validation" when importing content for existing Item

Symptom

When an admin is attempting to import content for an existing Item, the following error is generated:

          unknown error occurred during validation

Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Learning

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Log into HCM > navigate to Learning Administration > Content > Import Content > select 'Add Content for an Existing Item' >
  2. Select content to be imported >
  3. Select the required details and the existing Item >
  4. Error is generated.

Cause

Missing Add Item permission in the role associated to the Learning administrator.

Resolution

To solve this issue, please follow these steps:

  1. Go to System Administration > Security > Role Management >
  2. Search for Role ID in question >
  3. Click the edit icon >
  4. Go to Permissions tab >
  5. Click add one or more from list > then on Expand all >
  6. Search for the permission Add Item and check its respective checkbox >
  7. Click on 'Add'.

Now when the Admin attempts to import the content to an existing Item it should work successfully.

In case the permission Add Item can't be granted to allow the admins to 'Add Content for an Existing Item', a workaround would be to upload the content first (by going to Content > Import Content > Add New Content) and, once the Content Object is created, then the admin needs to go to the Item itself (Learning Activities > Items > item's record > Online Content tab), and add the newly imported content object through there.
