3104191 - ISO code XI is not correct in the VAT registration number

Symptom

Since 31 January 2020, the UK is officially no longer part of the EU. Although Northern Ireland is part of the UK, the region is currently intended to remain under EU VAT legislation when it comes to the supply of goods. Code GB will be used by the UK and assigned according to British legislation, the EU Commission has proposed a new country code 'XI' to be attributed as a prefix of Northern Irish tax ID numbers.

But when trying to maintain a new tax number code for Northern Ireland with prefix XI, the system is throwing the error: 'ISO code XI is not correct in the VAT registration number'

Reproducing the Issue

1. Go to Receivables work center
2. Go to Customers subview
3. Find the appropriate account
4. Click on Edit and select General
5. Go to the tab Financial Data
6. Change the Tax Number from GBAAAA to XIAAAA (where AAAA represents digits in the tax number code)
7. An error appears: ISO code XI is not correct in the VAT registration number

Cause

You need to use a new tax number type which is delivered to handle the XI tax numbers.

Resolution

Create a new row and  use tax number type Northern Ireland Protocol: VAT Reg. No. for entering the XI tax number. This is the tax number type delivered to handle the XI tax numbers.
