3113709 - Duplicate records in DTD - Workforce Analytics

Symptom

Duplicate or multiple records available in Drill to Detail in WFA

Environment

SuccessFactors Workforce Analytics (ANA) - All versions

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Workforce Analytics
  2. Run a measure e.g. Average Headcount
  3. Click on a number in the pivot table e.g. 6 (Canada, Ages 30-39) to open DTD

  4. You would expect to see 6 records in the Drill To Detail list, but the result is showing multiple records for each user

Resolution

DTD returns all data records that are behind the result. When drilling into detail for a particular Time (e.g. 2021), the system will fetch all relevant records in WFA processed 'Fact table' in 2021. This 'Fact table' is a merged/processed/spliced central table based on many tables that are configured in the cube.

There may be just one record in the table, but it can be spliced into multiple records depending on joins with other tables. Example:

Note that it's expected to have different Effective From and Effective To dates, hence multiple records. That means these records are valid for the respective time period, for which there must be a value change, so WFA can accurately track attributes on every single day.

Therefore, the number of records returned may not match the number we drill into. DTD is a function to allow to retrieve backend data to reconcile the number (based on whatever aggregation the metrics use distinct count/sum/end of period/start of period etc).
