3118155 - Tax Exchange Rate and Exchange Rate on the Same Journal Entry are Different

Symptom

Tax Exchange Rate and Exchange Rate on the same Journal Entry are different and you expect them to be the same.

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the General Ledger work center.
  2. Select the view Journal Entry.
  3. Search and find Journal Entry ID XYZ (XYZ represents the Journal Entry ID).
  4. Notice on the top of the posting Exchange rate displays as 123 (123 represents the Exchange Rate value).
  5. Select the VAT related line item.
  6. Under the line item details you will notice a line showing Tax Exchange Rate 456 (456 represents the Tax Exchange Rate value).

You want to know why the Exchange Rates are not the same for both the Tax Exchange rate and the Exchange Rate on the header of the Journal Entry.

Cause

The Tax Exchange Rate only appears on the Journal Entry if you have maintained Currency Conversion Type under the activity Tax on Goods and Services.

If there is a different Exchange Rate value to the Exchange rate it is because you have different values under Exchange Rate Type or Conversion Type in both the settings.

To compare you need to view the following settings:

1. To view the Tax Exchange rate settings:

  1. Go to the Business Configuration work center.
  2. Select the view Overview.
  3. Search and find the activity Tax on Goods and Services.
  4. Select the option Define Currency Conversion Type.
  5. Select the specific Country/Region.
  6. Make note of the Exchange Rate Type and Conversion Type.

2. To view the settings for Exchange Rate for the Document:

  1. Go to the Business Configuration work center.
  2. Select the view Overview.
  3. Search and find the activity Currency Conversion Profiles.
  4. Select the relevant Currency Conversion Profile.
  5. Select the relevant Business Transaction Type.
  6. Make note of the Exchange Rate Type and Conversion Type.

The reason why you have different value in the Tax Exchange Rate compared to the Exchange Rate is because the settings in the Exchange Rate Type and Conversion Type in the above settings are not the same.

Resolution

The system behavior is correct and working as expected.

Should you wish for the Tax Exchange Rates to be the same as the Exchange rate you have two options:

  1. Edit the Exchange Rate Type and Conversion Type to be the same in both.

or

  1. Make sure that you have maintained currency rates that are the same for both Exchange Rate Type.
