3121381 - How to handle multibyte OS error message when backup is done using utf8 character set - SAP ASE

Symptom

Under the below conditions, OS error message that Backup Server gets will be unreadable.

  • Display Language is set to Japanese
  • Character set for ASE Server is configured as UTF8
  • Character set for Backup Server is configured as CP850

If dump database command receives OS error in Japanese, you need to perform additional steps to output the Japanese OS error message correctly.
For example, the below "error number 112" is OS error message that means "There is not enough space on the disk".
But Japanese message is unreadable.
