3123325 - Error: 'ORA-03134: Connections to this server version are no longer supported' when refreshing a report based on Oracle in Crystal Reports

Symptom

  • Error when refreshing a report connecting to Oracle.
  • Able to successfully refresh the same report on a different computer.
  • When attempting to create, or refresh a report based on Oracle in Crystal Reports, it fails with the error:
      
       "ORA-03134: Connections to this server version are no longer supported."

Environment

  • SAP Crystal Reports 2013
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2016
  • SAP Crystal Reports 2020 

  • Oracle 9
  • Oracle 11g
  • Oracle 12c
  • Oracle 18c

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In Crystal Reports, open a report based on an Oracle data source.
  2. Refresh the report.
  3. It fails with the error:
      
    "ORA-03134: Connections to this server version are no longer supported."

Cause

  • The Oracle Client version is not compatible with the Oracle Server. ( For example: Oracle 12c Client is not compatible with Oracle 9i )

Resolution

  • Update the Oracle Client on the local computer, to be of the same version as the Oracle Server you are connecting to.
