3123929 - Limit of comment threads per model

Symptom

This KBA answers three questions

  1. What is the limit applicable to comment threads in SAP Analytics Cloud?
  2. What is the definition of a comment thread? Are the comments for a single cell considered as one comment thread? For example, if there are 10 different comments for a single cell, are they considered as one comment thread or 10 comment threads?
  3. If multiple versions of a model are created (e.g. multiple forecast models), and the comments are included during the creation/copy of the subsequent models, then the comments in the original version would be copied multiple times.  Do they all consume the "limit of comments threads per model" parameter?

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud

Reproducing the Issue

Question 1: What is the limit applicable to comment threads in SAP Analytics Cloud?

Answer 1: There is a default value of 3000 for the number of threads.  The default value can be changed through System>>Administration>>System Configuration.  There is no upper limit for the number of threads, but any value higher than the default value will impact the performance.

Question 2: What is the definition of a comment thread? Are the comments for a single cell considered as one comment thread? in other words, there could be 10 different comments for a single cell, are they considered as one comment thread or 10 comment threads?

Answer 2:  In case when there are 10 different comments for a single cell, they are all in one thread and will be listed by order in the comment editor.

Question 3: If multiple versions of a model are created (e.g. multiple forecast models), and the comments are included during the creation/copy of the subsequent models, then the comments in the original version would be copied multiple times.  Do they all consume the "limit of comments threads per model" parameter?

Answer 3:  As the parameter name suggests, it is for the MODEL. When copying version, user has the option to choose whether comments to be copied across version. If yes, the comments from the source version will be copied over to the target version. And all the comments are within the same model, so they will consume the "limit of comments threads per model" parameter.

Cause

1. What is the upper limit for the "limit of comment threads per model" parameter in system configuration?
2. What the definition of a comment thread?

Resolution

There are default limits on the number of comments that you can maintain.

Please find the details below.

Admin can set the Limit of Comment Threads per Model for Datapoint Commenting. Default value is 3000

Admin can set the Dimension member limit to enable Commenting on Analytic Models. Default value is 50000
As you can see these limits are configurable by admins.

There is a very comprehensive blog written by our team member B N, Bharath [X] where you can find more details on Commenting. Request you to refer to that.
