3125911 - How to Hire a Contingent Worker - Onboarding

Symptom

How does Onboarding work with hiring a Contingent Worker?

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Onboarding

Resolution

Onboarding doesn't accept hiring contingent workers in the system.

As a Contingent Worker, Rehire or Crossboarding (Onboarding functionalities) won't work. Therefore, it's necessary to Terminate this user in Employee Central.

Once user is terminated, the Onboarding can be started from Recruiting normally, a new one profile should be created.

Note: The current Contingent Worker can have his/her data updated in Employee Central, but they will never reach Onboarding side.

  • First scenario: A contingent worker needs to be rehired as a contingent worker: it will only work in Employee Central side, by the "Add Contingent Workers wizard".
  • Second scenario: A contingent worker left the company, and now will be hired as a New Hire, a permanent one, then the flow would be the normal one Recruiting > Onboarding > Employee Central. However, it won't match any profile, it won't be a "Rehire" but a New Hire case.
  • It is the same for Crossboarding for example, it does not work for Contingent workers at all, the only way would be by offboarding and then initiating him/her again as a New hire.

If you believe this feature/ability can improve the system, we suggest you to refer your scenario and business in the Influence Portal, where our Product Management team will be analyzing your case and if successfully voted and approved, can be implemented in further product releases.
