Symptom
- SAP BW queries fail with an "infected with signal 11" error during Hash operations.
- ASE parallel worker process spids terminate, along with a stack trace.
- The problem is specific to systems where ASE parallelism is enabled where ASE configuration parameters: "max parallel degree" and/or "max query parallel degree" are set to a value > 1.
- In the ASE errorlog, any or all of the following errors are reported:
Current process (0x830042) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
Address 0x0x00000000022faf4e (LeHashBucket::Find(LeHashContext*, int, LeAlignedDataRow*, unsigned int, int)+0x6e), siginfo (code, address) = (128, 0x(nil))
Current process (0x830042) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
Address 0x0x000000000178ebdb (LeHashTable::copy(LeHashTable*)+0x31), siginfo (code, address) = (1, 0x0x0000000000000010)
Current process (0x830042) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
Address 0x0x00000000022e837d (LeHashTable::GetPartition(int)+0x27), siginfo (code, address) = (1, 0x0x0000000000000008)
- The accompanying stack trace includes functions:
LeHashContext::updHashTable
LeHashContext::GetNext
LeHashOp::_LeOpNext
LeOperator::LeOpNext
LeEmitXchgOp::_LeOpNext
LePlanNext
LePlanOpenAndExecute
After these errors, either one of the below events occur: - If "secondary signal handling" is enabled, ASE crashes due to a "secondary signal":
FATAL UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: signal -1368775248 hit while handling a previously hit signal. The server cannot continue and will shut down. - If "secondary signal handling" is disabled, ASE hangs due to the affected spid becoming a zombie:
Task 12517472 is made zombie because it cannot be cleaned up during its termination. This task may have resources allocated to it.
