Symptom
When trying to deactivate a Position, system returns the following error:
- "You can’t deactivate this position. There’s a job requisition for it. Delete the job requisition first. Then, you can deactivate this position."
- "You cannot deactivate the position because a job requisition has already been created for it."
Environment
- SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting Management
- SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central
Reproducing the Issue
- Navigate to Manage Positions
- Edit the position
- Change the status to Inactive
- Click Save
- An error appears: "You can’t deactivate this position. There’s a job requisition for it. Delete the job requisition first. Then, you can deactivate this position."
Cause
The position has been linked to one or more active job requisitions
Resolution
Option 1: Close or delete the linked job requisition
Currently, to deactivate a Position that has a Requisition created (or more), the Requisition must be either set as Closed status or be deleted. While there is an active Requisition tied to the Position, it will not be possible to disable it.
Option 2: Remove the position from all standard position fields in the job requisition
Remove the position from all available standard position fields in the job requisition, including:
- "std_position_obj" (Position Object field), if applicable
- "positionNumber" (Position Number field), if applicable
This ensures the job requisition is no longer linked to the position.
To verify linked job requisitions:
- Navigate to Position Org Chart.
- Search for the relevant position.
- Click the position card and review the Job Requisition Details section.
After removing the position from the job requisition, confirm that no Job Requisition Details are displayed on the position card.
