3139533 - The opening balance is not equal to previous year closing balance after balance carryforward

Symptom

The opening balance of a year does not correspond to the closing balance of the previous year. The affected account is a retained earnings account.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition.

Cause

Within the balance carryforward, the P+L accounts are carried forward to the retained earnings accounts on the balance sheet (definition in SSCUI 100297 - Automatic Account Determination). No documents are created with this, hence the balance carryforward cannot be carried out via the line item display.

The opening balance on a retained earnings account consists of:
Opening balance = Closing balance of the previous year + Retained earnings from the P+L accounts

Resolution

Consequently, the opening balance on a retained earnings account does not correspond to the closing balance of the previous year.

During a drilldown for the balance carryforward, the documents displayed are only those posted directly to the account. As a result, there is a difference between the total from the displayed documents and the balance, since the retained earnings are carried out without document.
