Symptom

  • ASE errorlog reports a signal 11 at address memmark
  • This may be followed by a stack overflow that causes ASE go down:
    Current process (0x511d0669) infected with signal 11 (SIGSEGV)
    Address 0x0x0000000001e4f3cd (memmark+0xd) ...
  • with a stack trace including functions
    memmark
    tdsrecv__paramfmt_params
    tdsrecv__dynexec 
  • After several more signal 11s with similar patterns and / or including Address (nil), a stack overflow causes ASE to go down
  • ... end of stack trace, spid 1234
  • Stack overflow detected: limit: 0x0x00000001b18728d0, guardpage: ....
    *** Stack guardword corrupted.
