3143945 - How to grant permissions to a login via a role but not adding the user to the specific database - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • Users not belonging to specific database would like to access objects in it.
  • User defined roles have been granted properly, however it reports below error, for example:

    isql  -Utt -Pxx -w999
    select * from mydb.tonyt.mytable
    go
    Msg 10351, Level 14, State 1:
    Server 'xx', Line 1:
    Server user id 4 is not a valid user in database 'mydb'.
    use mydb
    go
    Msg 10351, Level 14, State 1:
    Server 'xx', Line 1:
    Server user id 4 is not a valid user in database 'mydb'.
